Breakfast in Bed Tray… Little Chef!
I was watching a Youtube video and the person was using those small tumbling tower blocks you get at Dollar Tree to make a breakfast tray and I was like that’s cool. Before I switched to lemon inspired items for my kitchen it was a Tuscan vineyards theme and still kind of is so the tray still works there so I got a little chef backsplash from Dollar Tree. Since it was summer I also bought a rectangular summer sign from Dollar Tree as well.
Using my sanding block I removed the glitter from the signs letters so they wouldn’t be seen or felt below the backsplash. Then I took and painted both sides of the board with my chalk paint in moss color. Then using the letters I glued two blocks together and then painted the blocks in moss color chalk paint as well. After the board was painted I carefully began to put the chef backsplash onto the board, the backsplash is large so best to look it over and decide where best to place it before beginning, but as you can see it did ripple a little bit. I tried to put parchment over it and iron it but it didn’t help sadly.
Now taking the doubled blocks I put them along the edges and then I hot glued them down however at the end you can see around the edges the backsplash material so I had to plan b it. I got more blocks and decided to lay some around the edges lower than the top tier and do it in a contrasting color. So I painted the single layer ones by mixing off white chalk paint and yellow and orange acrylic paint to create a Tuscan yellowish orange color. After dry I hot glued it on around the edges to cover the side backsplash. However I will say since the board wasn’t even size on all sides I did have to cut down some tower pieces and had to sand the edges after cut but it wasn’t too bad.
After that I left it to dry before going back and fixing any mess ups in the paint job. Finally I decided to but a golden fork and spoon as I think these colors matches well but as you’ll see I’ve used other spoon colors for my other trays coming soon. I slightly bent the spoon and fork backwards and tested to see if I could get my hands under if up against the tray and I could. So I measured it out and applied a tiny drop of E6000 glue to two spots, one under the main part of spoon or fork and other spot under the lower handles part and set aside to dry.
So there you have it a cute little versatile food tray! There are different backsplashes to use and you don’t have to stop there as you can also decoupage the tray and seal it and or can also make this for things besides food for maybe like a spa day mani / pedi accessories holder ect. The options are near endless. Also it now is a table centerpiece on our dining room table holding my anniversary gift of tea pot and cups I gave my husband Anthony and it looks lovely there.
