Fake Stain Glass Chinese Lantern Centerpiece!
Prior to me and my husband Anthony’s one year wedding
anniversary party July 2018 I saw this person on YouTube make fake stain glass
using glue and paint and I just had to try it. So since I was doing a Koi Pond theme
anniversary party I decided to make a lantern centerpiece item for one of the tables
but go figure I was so befuddled the day of I forgot it at home lol!

So you can use old windows for wall décor or lanterns or as I did frames
and make a lantern or just about anything. I bought three frames from Dollar
Tree and removed the glass from the frames and washed and dried them. Next I chose
between the adult coloring books I had which pages fit the Koi Pond theme and
then I removed them from the book and taped the glass above the page. Then I took
my bottle of black acrylic paint and added some to the white glue bottle and
using the end of my paint brush I swirled it around mixing it in with my white
glue. After it was mixed using the glue bottle I traced along the lines of the
image with the black acyclic paint and glue mixture, cleaning up and correcting
as I went, until the whole image was traced onto the glass and then I left it
to dry.
Once the black acrylic paint and glue mixture was dry I took
a paint pallet and put some clear glue into the pallet and then using the acrylic
paint color of choice I poured it into the pallet with the clear glue and
mixed. The amount of glue to paint ratio I just eye balled for my own needs. Then
you paint the areas you want with the particular acrylic paint and clear glue mixture.
After that you leave to dry again.
Next you take it and put it smooth side facing out back in
the frame and close the prongs on the back to hold the glass and or you can hot
glue the edges of the glass to the frame, however you like. Then you just do
the same step with a different image for the next two glasses.
Once each frame is complete you take the frames and hot glue
and reinforce them together in a triangular design or if you want you can do a
square but triangle worked for me. Now you can insert a LED candle, DO NOT use
a flame candle because of the glue and acrylics used. Bare in mind the light
wont reflect very well given the candle used because the paint isn’t always
thin and reflective like actual stain glass as your using glue and acrylic
paint but the look is cool none the less and some light is seen.
This is a really cool thing to make but I’ll show a few pictures below of two more I did and as you will see it’s not very easy to
trace smaller things and the woman in the one looks like a female beast from
beauty and the beast and wasn’t very good but the birds in the bird bath is a
good one. Of the original shown here the Koi fish was my favorite. Since adult
coloring books have so many different designs making these could be endless but
also depending on size this could get elaborate and much more fun!
