Dad’s Garage Clock!

So I am super excited to showcase this as my second clock I have ever made and I love it better than my first Route 66 clock I made for myself!

So I tried to remove the words on the metal sign with sand paper as I had for my route 66 sign but I became tired of it and realized the covering of paint was good on mine and wouldn’t show through so I skipped with the sand paper. I painted the whole sign with black chalk paint and then along the edges I painted it with a silver-grey metallic paint. I took my sanding block and sandpaper and made some scratches around the edge to let the black show through so it wasn’t as fresh looking.

Now measuring it and marking I knew where I needed to make the hole for the clock mechanism but given the bottle cap was metal it was much harder to make the hole with my route 66 clock but this time around we had a drill and so we drilled it and once the hole was ready I put the Dad’s Garage sticker on and made a hole in it to match the size of the one on the bottle cap and then was able to arrange the clock mechanism to the bottle cap at the back. With this clock I actually put the clock mechanism on right where I learned I had put mine on wrong though it still works lol.

Once it was ready I took to positioning each of the M2 vintage cars at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock mark and unlike my route 66 sign I kept the cars on the ramps they came with which has the name and year the car was made in which is really cool and looks much more garage like whereas mine had been meant to resemble driving cars. So I used  a small amount of E6000 glue at the base of the ramp and put them where I had lightly marked and left each of the cars to dry in place 24 hours before continuing.

So for the remaining numbers around the clock I decided to E6000 glue down garage tool 3D stickers and little mini tools used in scrap booking. Now E6000 dries clear but sometimes looks shiny especially with my chalk paint backing so I carefully would paint over the shiny dry paint with more chalk paint but I will say I couldn't cover it all but it's okay it looks like wet oil so it fits the garage theme.

I have to say this was a very special gift to make and I love the look of it and my dad and my mom loved it, though my mom already knew I was making it for my dad but my dad didn’t know!! They hung it on the wall next to their kitchen that’s also part of the dining room, its an open concept room but anyway it looks perfect! So I say try this clock out and even if you don’t have stickers you can use stencils and paint the desired image on! Clocks are surprisingly easy to make and I am about to try a Star Wars clock for myself soon!
