Mason Jar Wall Décor!

I saw a lady make a mason jar wall picture using foam board and I really wanted again to do it but put my own spin on it. I didn’t have a mason jar wall plaque but I did find some paper one’s so I used them to trace onto the foam board to create this.

So I painted the foam board with ivory chalk paint but didn’t realize how much the paint would make the board warp after absorbing the paint so the board is a little warped and leans outwards but that’s ok with me but I give fair warning it will warp on occasion. So the person that made it painted it and drew lines to make it look like a rustic board but I didn’t fair well that way so instead I found these two sheets of wood plank scrapbook paper and decided to hot glue it to the foam board instead and I liked it way better and wish I had done that from the get go.

Now I took the mason jar and traced it onto the second foam board I bought and tried to cut it out and again it was not so easy. My x-acto knife had trouble cutting through and even the scissors were hard at getting it out and I wish I had a mason jar plaque to save me the frustration but finally I had it cut out. To make it appear like a real mason jar I wrote words with 3D puffy paint on the sides, the words were travel related, Sonder, Travel, Trouville .

I painted the mason jar with lavender chalk paint and then used champagne acrylic paint and went over the lavender starting on the edges and going lighter as you go inward and it looks shiny and very beautiful. The champagne acrylic paint is to the match the top of the mason jar. The version I saw online used actual metal and bent it to look like a mason jar lid but that was too hard for me to pull off so I decided to use a champagne colored glitter runner I picked up at the store Five below and that is how the whole color scheme had come together early on. I bent and folded the cut-out piece to look like a lid and hot glued that to the top of the mason jar but you can’t really see it well once the flowers are on anyhow but I do love the look.

I hot glued the mason jar to the plank board foam board. Next, I took and played around with how I wanted the large pink flower and small pink and off white wildflowers to be placed. I tried a few different ways but decided to have one large pinkish flower and have the other smaller sprigs of wildflowers be around it as if coming from the mason jar. I also used a few green sprigs to create a pop of another color and look more realistic. Lastly, I braided a few pieces of twine and then hot glued it to the back top of the foam board so it could be placed on the wall.

I absolutely loved how it all looked even with the difficulties early on. I wish the board had not warped and bent outwards though. I did try and remedy it but it is permanently stuck bent. So all in all my difficulties have shown me how to better do this in the future but I love my first attempt at this none the less.
