Breakfast in Bed Tray…. Gather!
This breakfast in
bed tray is similar to the one that I made for my house which resembles a
little chef on it. I made this gather tray for my husbands grandparents as part
of a gift which contained a matching towel pillow, matching pot holder, decoupage
coasters and matching blanket.
So I made all my Breakfast in Bed Trays during summer so I bought summer themed saying boards at Dollar Tree but they have saying boards for each season so any of them can work. I took my sanding block to the glitter letters just to remove the glitter so it won’t be seen or felt below the backsplash image.
I painted the whole board in black acrylic paint and left to dry. Now I had a better experience adhering the Gather backsplash versus the chef one for me or even the coffee inspired one for my parent's and I’m not sure why some adhere better than others. I took and measured the backsplash to the board to see where I wanted the design and words to fit at and then cut it out. Starting at the edge I slowly adhered the backsplash which had a sticky backing and is easy to remove and reattach. Slowly I smoothed it down and it turned out nice and had no bumps or air bubbles.
I took the tumbling tower blocks and doubling them I hot glued them atop each other until I had a few sets of them. The double layer of blocks I painted a charcoal light black color. Once the blocks were painted I hot glued them to the edges of the backsplash all the way around. Now since the board wasn’t perfect shape some of the blocks had to be cut down to size. Now to hide the edges of the board I painted single blocks and once dry glued them at the base of the double blocks all the way around. Now on the single blocks I did a marbling effect and it took a bit to get it just right. I added a mixture of black, white and silver to create a marbled look. I just poured them into a paint pallet but didn’t stir them but rather put my paint brush through them and painted it onto the blocks and it turned out really pretty.
Once everything is dry I took my black spoon and fork for the handle and like with my chef one I bent the fork and spoon gently backwards to create a small gap so once attached its easy to pick them up. Using E6000 glue I put a small amount on the handle and back tips of the spoon and fork and attached them to the area I had already marked and laid them down and let them dry 24 hours.
Now even though the backsplash adhered better with this one the blocks didn’t stay put with the hot glue so some spots I had to finish with super glue when they loosened up. But all in all this turned out beautifully and Anthony’s grandparents really liked it!
